Yes, there are coyotes in Dunany!

Proof: the animal on the left is an eastern coyote probably tracking the scent of a deer or looking for a small rodent.

Eastern coyotes are a hybrid of western coyotes and wolves. They are primarily nocturnal animals and usually wary of humans and avoid people whenever possible.

These animals were photographed recently in the private forest adjacent to the golf course using a hidden camera.

The other interesting animal is a Pekan, a large dark brown North American arboreal carnivorous mammal, a name of Algonquian origin. It is a solitary animal, difficult to observe, a predator who will even go after porcupines!

The bird, as many of you will know, is a Pileated woodpecker.

    Hi Everyone

It is also known that the coyote and the wolf of which I have spotted on my propery are natural preditor of the beaver too.

Yes, I’ve seen coyotes around my place and hear them on the ridge every night.
I have had a feline visitor at my place for the last 12-18 mos. It seems to have adopted me and comes by quite regularly. I will post a picture here and maybe someone will recognise the beastie and let me know if it belongs to anyone. Thanks for the photos.

Where else are hidden cameras?? Good photography. That must by why I haven’t seen my 2 cats in a while, hope they’re not rabid, amazing animals and what a way to have to feed yourself.

Will a pekan go after a dog? I saw a coyote last winter on MacDougall near Dunany. He was not scared of me in the list bit. Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

    Greetings from Florida! Great pictures.

In my long-ago childhood the “pekan” was known as a fisher. – a vicious predator for its size.

Yeah I thought same thing as Lois. Cats beware if coyotes around. They make a good meal for them but the Pekan really grabs my interest. Is this the same as a fisher?? Looks like the same and I know fishers go after porcupines.

    Wow!!
Knew we had heard them, glad to know we weren’t crazy! A little close to home though.
    Thanks for these great pics.

Great pictures ! Particularly the one of the pekan. I always thought they were nuts 😉

It is a joy to hear the coyotes at night particularly when there is a full moon 😉
